New CT scanner coming to LincolnHealth

Patients needing CT scans at the LincolnHealth –Miles Campus in December may need to use a temporary mobile system (similar to the mobile MRI unit currently in use) while a brand new CT scanner is installed at the facility.

“We’re excited about getting a CT Scanner at Miles,” said LincolnHealth Director of Diagnostic Imaging Lana Brandt. “We just want to get the message out about the temporary mobile system and that there may be some patient inconvenience associated with installing the new system,” she said.

Computerized (or computed) tomography, (CAT) scan, is an X-ray procedure that combines many X-ray images with the aid of a computer to generate cross-sectional views and, if needed, three-dimensional images of the internal organs and structures of the body. While this technology has been at Miles for many years, the new system will provide much better resolution using significantly lower amounts of radiation.

“We expect the installation will begin on December 8 and will take approximately two to three weeks to complete," Brandt said. “During that time our staff will receive training on the new system.”
