State boat catches fire in Boothbay Harbor
The 35-foot patrol vessel Monitor caught fire Monday morning, Feb. 24 while at the dock at Department of Marine Resources’ Boothbay Harbor facility, DMR spokesman Jeff Nichols said Thursday, Feb. 27. No one was on board at the time, Nichols said in an email response.
The fire was reported by a DMR staff member at 8:40 a.m., was extinguished by Boothbay Harbor Fire Department and was towed to Hodgdon Yacht Services on Southport, Nichols said. “The cause of the fire appears to be electrical and extent of the damage is currently unknown but it is being investigated by the state's Fire Marshal.”
