In 2!
Getting New York Times’ daily Wordle in two lines, like I was surprised to do today, is not quite like a hole in one, more like a hole in one in miniature golf, or using all seven letters on your Scrabble tray.
It is a small, but coveted win that matters in the moment, like your favorite lemonade being in stock or like arriving at a green light, except those are happenstance, something you can take no credit for but that goes your way. No, Wordle in two and the seven letters in Scrabble take focus. You will have nothing to show for it but the fun and affirmation, but those are both good things.
Some small wins matter more, like Wiscasset’s ordinance review committee having a quorum Monday night, July 24. You might recall from a recent editorial, the ORC has many times over the years been OOL, out of luck, at meeting time and had to cancel for lack of a quorum. Longtime chair Karl Olson said Monday’s meeting “discussed the various possible parking requirements part of implementing LD 2003,” Maine’s new law aimed at adding housing.
Working toward that goal is taking and will take time and focus, and every time the panel on the ground floor of it in Wiscasset can make progress, it is even better than Wordle in two. Maybe not as fun, since ordinance drafting at least always looks arduous, but it has the clear corner on significance.
Week’s positive parting thought: Whatever your wins this week, relish them and use them to buoy you onto other small successes, or bigger ones.
