Wiscasset, Boothbay, Woolwich, Dresden, Alna and Westport firefighters, Wiscasset Ambulance Service, the Maine Forest Service and Lincoln County EMA have cleared the scene of Friday afternoon's woods fire off Wiscasset’s Bradford Road. The fire was about 100 yards off the road and burned 1.1 acres of woods, Wiscasset Fire Chief T.J. Merry said shortly before 6 p.m., about four hours after crews were called out.

Newcastle Fire Department minded the Wiscasset fire station, Merry said.

The fire was under investigation for a cause, he said. The afternoon's wind added to the difficulty of putting it out, Merry said, adding, some hoses have been left in place and the scene will be checked periodically in the next day or so for any reigniting.

At about 3:40 p.m., Wiscasset firefighter Rob Bickford said the fire appeared to be knocked down. Bickford and later Merry described the response from other towns and agencies as excellent. “We all depend on each other now,” Bickford said.

No one was hurt fighting the fire, Merry said.

Wiscasset Ambulance Service Director Toby Martin said during the fire the agency was checking firefighters.

Boothbay firefighter Paul Mayotte said on scene, the department had a crew of four there and one engine.

Bradford Road resident Mudd Sherrigan took a walk by the scene afterseeing the fire engines when he went to check his mailbox.

Wiscasset got another fire call about the same time as the one on Bradford Road. The department's safety officer Tim Merry said he put out the spot fire in Bayview Heights off Route 218. A branch came down on a wire, catching the branch on fire and taking out power; the tree the branch was from and about 1/16 of an acre caught fire, also, he said.
