Bulb sale extended
Maybe it’s because they’ve seen the glorious display of flowering spring bulbs at Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens and want to echo them at home, or maybe they recognize the quality of the bulbs offered, or maybe it’s because of a burgeoning interest in gardening. Whatever the reason, people are ordering more bulbs than ever this year during the gardens’ annual late-summer sale of spring-flowering bulbs. To accommodate those who still haven’t ordered, the deadline has been extended to September 15.
The order form is available through the top calendar listing at www.MaineGardens.org. It shows 10 selections, as packages of either a single type of bulb or combinations. The single-bulb sets range from tiny, multi-flowered daffodils to two-foot high tulips in brilliant colors. The combos are in a variety of shades that play off each other to create a spectacular display. Some bloom in the middle of the bulb season; others bloom late.
All the selections are available in packages of 25, 50, or 100, with significant savings for the larger numbers. Bulb pick-up is on the weekend of October 6 and 7, or bulbs will be shipped for an additional fee, as outlined on the order form.
The gardens’ horticulturists have selected for the sale only the best quality bulbs from the same source they use for the gardens' glorious and long-lasting displays. And each purchase supports the continued growth of the gardens. For more information, call 633-4333, ext. 101, or stop by the gardens, off Barters Island Road in Boothbay.
