It was a big music weekend.

Our daughter and her husband traveled to New York City’s Radio City Music Hall for a “Khalid” concert. Not the Rockettes but according to Morgan and Andrei, a great show!

Then the Grammys, which I, of course watched. Not. However, I’m sure a ton of people did. But the biggest and best show of all was right here in River City on our very own personal performance stage, The Opera House. It was quite an evening.

A united performance by hundreds of people who care. Our people. The glue of this region, which believes in the dignity of the human spirit and a willingness to help.

The first big event of the season at the Opera House is somewhat of a tradition. The Holy Mackerels and the Boneheads. It’s sort of a January thaw when knee deep in winter. But this year’s performance took an unexpected turn. Bob Colwell, of the Boneheads, keyboard legend, was absent — sidelined with a medical emergency.

The word got out and a decision was made for the show to go on, but as a fundraiser. Ticket sales, outright donations, silent auctions, and efforts by Friends of The Opera House raised over $6,000. The musicians played for Bob, without compensation. Their was standing room only and dancing galore. A truly festive event supporting a wonderful person with hope and prayers for a speedy recovery. Guest performers played and sang in Bob's honor.

Bob has been an active guru for Maine’s music community for a very long time. He has worked tirelessly on behalf of musicians and their craft. He is beloved and revered, recognized as a great keyboard artist, a sound and recording expert and most of all, a sensitive and caring individual.

The energy in the room at the Opera House was powerful. Bob is much loved. He will return.
