Confused, credits and a collapse
Thank you, Chuck Cunningham, for pointing out my error in last week’s column. I wrote that because Boothbay changed its annual town meeting to Monday, it produced a quandary regarding the publishing of political letters to the editor. I was wrong. It was Boothbay Harbor which had changed its town meeting from Mondays to Fridays/Saturdays several years ago. In any case and for the time being, if Boothbay continues to hold its annual town meetings on Mondays, we will be accepting political letters in the issue before because it falls in the previous week … at least in our eyes.

Before getting wrapped up in the letters deadline, I meant to thank the many people I saw cleaning the roadsides in the region on Earth Day, Saturday, April 22. The roadsides look much nicer … although within a day or days, we are sure that garbage – either thrown intentionally or flying out the back of pickup trucks – littered the landscape. Let’s hope we can all remember to put garbage in its proper place to keep our roadsides clean.

There was a good turnout of Boothbay voters (588) on Monday. Congratulations to the winners and to those who wanted to seek seats to help run the town and school governments.

I confess that I am not a diehard hockey fan but I did enjoy cheering on the Boston Bruins through their historic winning season. However, seeing them collapse in the first round of the Stanley Cup playoffs to the Florida Panthers was stunning. We must feel somewhat how New York Yankee fans felt after blowing a 3-1 series lead to the Red Sox in 2004.
