A Damariscotta man was arrested April 22 and charged with sex crimes involving a minor. Norman L. Newton Sr., 62, was charged with Gross Sexual Assault Class A. Lincoln County Sheriff's Detective Terry Michaud arrested him.

These charges came after an investigation of numerous alleged offenses over several years in Damariscotta. The alleged crimes involve one victim. Newton is being held at Two Bridges regional Jail in Wiscasset in lieu of $5,000 cash bail.
