Fix Route 27
It has been two weeks since Rep. Holly Stover (D-Boothbay) submitted a letter to Maine Department of Transportation Commissioner Bruce Van Note about the importance of fixing Route 27 from Edgecomb to Boothbay. Those who drive on the road know how dangerous it can be in spots with potholes and edges of the road torn up.
On Memorial Day, I asked Holly if the commissioner had answered her letter. She said he had not.
Why not, Mr. Van Note? You could at least show her the courtesy and contact her.
Although the plan to fix/replace the road is in 2024, we expect that something could be done to fill the holes in the road in the meantime … before thousands more drive down to the peninsula to enjoy their visit or vacation.
We received a letter over the weekend from a resident saying he was following a truck hauling an Airstream travel trailer from Edgecomb to Boothbay Harbor and that the driver was straddling the yellow line and going over the white line to avoid the bad spots – that risked a head-on collision or the truck could have hit a pedestrian or bicyclist. How many others have seen this scenario?
We hope the DOT finally does make the road safer for this year and, although we will have to put up with delays next year when the road is expected to be redone, at least we can drive and not come upon an oncoming vehicle trying to save his vehicle’s suspension.
