Green cleaning workshop
National Safe At Home Week takes place during the last Monday through Friday in August of each year. This week promotes and emphasizes safety in and around the home to eliminate senseless home-related injuries, as do programs at Spectrum Generations Coastal Community Center in Damariscotta.
Join Ava Anderson, a non-toxic-consultant and Sylvia Tavares at the Coastal Center on August 27 at 3 p.m. and learn how to avoid the chemical soup in everyday products and make safe and healthy choices when purchasing cleaning supplies.
Tavares will discuss and teach participants about safe, non-toxic and natural alternatives, and will share safe cleaning tips for both our homes and our families.
Safe at Home Week exists because: the number one cause of accidental fatalities in the home with children is poisoning; costs of home-related injuries are higher for employers than work-related injuries through payouts of employer-provided health plans, lost productivity, and absence from work; and home-related injuries adversely affect family and personal quality of life.
Samples will be given out and a raffle prize will be drawn during the workshop. To reserve a space, call 563-1363. Participation fee $5 per person.
