Hear, Hear, here
Anytime someone can put out a message that people should respect one another, whether in a group, a world, or a town in Maine, that is a good thing. So when we got just that last week from the full, five-member selectboard in Wiscasset, we were happy to share it, although not happy it was apparently necessary.
The local incidents that prompted the message were unnamed except by the common denominator of people showing other people a lack of respect. Read the board’s letter in this edition or at wiscassetnewspaper.com
When things get rancorous in local or other politics, or when people are just going about their daily lives and some do not act with respect, it is worthwhile to state the obvious, to respect one another, just as a reminder. Thank you, Wiscasset selectmen.
The message came the same week we got a letter on, and reported on, an incident of a resident’s Ukrainian and pride flags being torn from a Federal Street front door. The perpetrator’s goal, if any, was not yet determined. But when someone damages something, anything, that belongs to someone else, whatever the motivation, they send a message of lack of respect for the owner, and nothing positive about themselves.
Week’s positive parting thought: Each time the rain lets up, you can hear the tweets.
