Daylight saving time going permanent? The U.S. Senate agrees with the idea but according to news reports, the measure to have one time zone is having a hard time being passed in the House of Representatives. More studies are needed, according to news reports.

Eastern states, like Maine and Florida, like the idea of a longer day of sunlight throughout the year but according to studies, darkness would prevail until about 9 a.m. in the West.

Some of us have lived with daylight saving time being used year-round. For less than two years beginning in 1973, President Nixon signed legislation to put the nation on daylight saving time. There was so much backlash, with students and workers having to leave their homes in the dark, the idea was scrapped.

We’ll see what happens.

Drones with cameras are being used in Ukraine to help their effort in fighting the war against Russia. It is a 21st century mode of battle that is quite interesting, though not new. The war in Afghanistan featured drones as well. But the drones should help the Ukrainians feel somewhat more secure as Putin seems to be going after anything and everything, including civilians.

I watched a whole lot of basketball action from Thursday through Monday, with the men’s and women’s college tournaments getting underway. There were a lot of close games and my TV remote control got a good workout. My wife reminded me that I used to stay up and watch the games until about midnight … but I can’t do that anymore. I would have loved to have seen the Gonzaga-TCU overtime game. The Zags, my pick to win it all, however will be on earlier this Thursday, so I am looking forward to that.
