Chief Robert Hasch of the Boothbay Harbor Police Department has released the following information about the standoff which occurred today (May 15) at 31 Oak St.:

“On 5-15-2019 at approximately (11:15 a.m.) Officer Beck and Chief Hasch responded to a call reporting possible fighting / arguing at 31 Oak Street.

Upon arrival Officer Beck and Chief Hasch made contact with a female subject who had barricaded herself in a third floor room in an attempt to flee from a male subject who reportedly had a large bayonet.

With assistance from Fire Chief Upham a ladder was obtained and the female subject was brought to safety.

A subsequent standoff occurred with the male subject in the residence due to multiple threats towards police and other individuals. This continued for approximately 2 ½ hours until 1:48 p.m. at which time the male subject exited the residence to confront officers.

Sgt. Patrick Higgins was able to subdue the suspect who was then transported for medical evaluation, and subsequently to Two Bridges Regional Jail.

Konstantinos Rigas (age 31) of Boothbay Harbor was charged with the following;

2. DV assault 1 prior- 17-A 207-A, 011287
3. Assault (on police) -17-A, 207, Class D, 008382
4. Refusing to submit to arrest (physical force) 17-A 751-B, Class D, 011512
5. Creating a Police standoff-17-A, 517, Class E, 013716
6. Four counts of Terrorizing 17-A, 210, Class D, 004258

In closing we would like to add a note. In small towns most people know each other. Mr. Rigas is from a family that the police department likes and respects very much, they are hard working, kind, and caring. This same family has undergone multiple incidents of immense tragedy this year. We ask that our small community extend courtesy, respect, and support to them in their time of need.”
