Rainy with a chance of thoughts
Random rainy and overly windy day thought No. 1: Hope you have been checking out First Congregational Church of Wiscasset’s weekly historical articles as the hallmark of the hill turns 250. You might already know much of the history, like I thought I did, but hopefully, like me, you are learning or remembering small and big things that helped make First Congregational a special place that is part of, and reflects, Wiscasset’s spirit.
No. 2: Once again, the news out of a meeting has turned out to be something that was not on the agenda. Wiscasset selectmen’s meeting Aug. 1 was humming along with housekeeping and then the usual public comment period before the board was set to get on with other business and, somewhere in public comment, Selectman Terry Heller invited a man up to speak who, it turned out, is lining up passenger train service for the Rockland branch. And if you spell Wiscasset with one “t,” you probably also know this town is part of the Rockland branch.
The impending start of some excursion service was news to me and maybe the 9,400-plus others who had read it across our three websites – wiscassetnewspaper.com, boothbayregister.com and penbaypilot.com – by early Tuesday morning, Aug. 8. And better yet, this was good news, as long as no one expects too much too soon.
But dreaming is good. It is how goals start. All aboard for wherever!
No. 3: The trouble with a list is, if it has only two items, it does not seem like much of a list. So here are two good things about two-item lists: They take little time to read, and not too much time to write; and second, if they are to-do’s, two is pretty doable.
Week’s positive parting thought: There is still a third of a year until the first day of winter.
