So long 2022
Is “Auld lang syne” starting to ring in your head as we move onto a new year? The Scottish term means “times long past” and the song is traditionally sung on New Year’s Eve.
In case you want to sing it on Saturday evening, here is the first verse and chorus:
“Should old acquaintance be forgot,
and never brought to mind?
Should old acquaintance be forgot,
and auld lang syne?
Chorus
For auld lang syne, my dear,
for auld lang syne,
we'll take a cup of kindness yet,
for auld lang syne.”
There are a lot of memories from 2022, like every year, of good times, sad times, friendships made and friendships lost, good news, bad news and more. Hope you had a good year and that 2023 brings even better experiences.
Politics, war and the lingering COVID-19 virus seemed to dominate the news this year. Hope all of them have better news for us as we head into 2023.
2023 will bring us many notable anniversaries. Looking those up on https://www.cfr.org/blog/ten-anniversaries-note-2023, three not so significant ones include: April 3 is the fiftieth anniversary of the first handheld mobile phone call; May 14 is the twenty-fifth anniversary of the airing of the final episode of "Seinfeld;” and June 9 marks 50 years since Secretariat won the Belmont and became the first Triple Crown winner in 25 years.
Time moves on. Mobile phones now seem like a necessity. We had many laughs while watching “Seinfeld.” And was Secretariat the strongest horse you’ve ever seen running around a track?
Be safe on New Year’s Eve and “Happy New Year!”
