Village views
Kudos to the artists who came this month to capture Wiscasset’s outdoor beauty, which is both easy and hard to do. As I recall once saying about Westport Island, Wiscasset, too, cannot take a bad picture, or, in this case, painting. Beautiful just is.
But how to choose? That is hard. The good news was so many artists took part in Maine Art Gallery’s plein air event, they captured numerous views. The photo the gallery shared with Boothbay Register/Wiscasset Newspaper of “Tucker Hill View,” the best in show winner by Anthony Watkins of Rockland, reminded me that is one of my favorite spots in town, because the pretty expanse is also pretty quiet compared to Route 1 nearby.
Thank you to Watkins for spending that time here, and to MAG for attracting the artists.
Week’s positive parting thought: It’s back, resuming, again, in place of the week’s parting observation that has sometimes fit better in the pandemic. It is time, or maybe even needed, with the variant on and some U.S. places taking divergent approaches. So let us turn to Westport Island, where, as Sarah Whitfield reports this week, a child donated her lemonade sale proceeds to local causes. Thank you, Linnea Helland, for the generosity and the great example.
