Dear Editor:

It is time for a dramatic change on the Wiscasset School Board. We need to refresh the Board with members who will be responsible to the parents, children, and taxpayers of Wiscasset. It is evident that we have lost trust in the board and the administration of the school.

We have two candidates who will work diligently to restore trust. They will listen, study, and investigate all proposals that are presented to the Board. They will not be coerced to vote in unison with other members. Both of these individuals will put the needs of the school (children, parents, and staff) first. They will come prepared to all meetings and fully understand the roles of school board members. Each has a strong history of fiscal responsibility in their work histories.

Most importantly, they will work diligently to restore trust. Test scores began slipping prior to Covid and have continued to slip to this day. We are sending children out of our schools unprepared for life in the 21st century.  This has to end.  Our curriculum must be investigated and adapted to life today.  We can no longer focus on the frivolous and need to focus on the necessary.

Knowing Doug Merrill and Tracey Whitney personally and having listened to their passion for the town, our schools, and our children, we will gladly vote for them for School Board on June 11. We ask you to consider their candidacy and vote for them as well.
