Weather, forsythia and sports
The fluctuating weather gave us a bit of summer, spring and fall this week. I guess we get that during the spring, but I would prefer some more temperatures in the mid-to-high 60s ... and perhaps a few surprise 70s. I guess I might be asking too much since it is only the first week in May. It is nice to see lawnmowers, instead of snowblowers, in the back of trucks or on trailers as they pass by me during my dog walks.

Before I forget, forsythia bushes always remind me of May, especially May 8, 1982, when my new wife, Melodee, and I enjoyed our outside wedding reception on Gilead Street in Boothbay Harbor. We were living in Marlyn "Gus" Schopper's house, which had some forsythias shining like sunshine (and in the sunshine) that day. Gus was my longtime neighbor who married Melodee's mother, Marie, the Christmas before we got married. Happy 39th Melodee!

I haven't mentioned the Boston/New England professional sports teams in a while. Do you like the Patriots' draft picks – specifically Alabama QB Mac Jones? If Cam (C.A.M.) Newton isn't up to par, perhaps we can switch him out with Mac (M.A.C.)! Sorry ... couldn't resist. The Celtics have been up and down so it's hard to tell if they will go anywhere in the upcoming playoffs. The Bruins are doing well – third place in the East at 31-14 and they clinched a playoff berth. The playoffs start May 11. Finally, the Red Sox have been somewhat surprising – 17-12 as of Tuesday morning and leading the American League East. Let's hope they continue to win and that our (top?) pitcher, Chris Sale, can get back on the mound after his long rehab from Tommy John surgery. Still wish they had kept Brock Holt and Andrew Benintendi!
