“The Boys in the Boat” - (PG-13; 2 hours, 4 minutes) - An inspirational true story, from Oscar winning director George Clooney. Based on the #1 New York Times bestselling non-fiction novel, follows a group of underdogs at the height of the Great Depression. “The Boys in the Boat” tells the uplifting story of the 1936 University of Washington rowing team that competed for gold at the Summer Olympics in Berlin. “The Bad and the Beautiful” - (1952; 1 hour, 58 minutes) - The fifth film in Season 6 of Lincoln Theater’s Classic Film Club celebrating the Legends & Lovers of Hollywood. Kirk Douglas and Lana Turner deliver a searing peek inside Hollywood in a drama reminiscent of “Sunset Boulevard” and “All About Eve.” In this five time Academy Award Winner, Director Vincente Minnelli captures the rise and fall of an unscrupulous producer who ruthlessly climbs the ladder of screen success, using others along the way. “Poor Things” - (R; 2 hours, 21 minutes) - Nominated for 11 Oscars, including Best Motion Picture, Best Director, Best Actress (Emma Stone) and Best Actor (Mark Rufflo). An incredible tale of the fantastical evolution of Bella Baxter, a young woman brought back to life by a brilliant and unorthodox scientist (Willem Dafoe). Eager to learn and hungry for the worldliness, Bella runs off with a slick and debauched lawyer on a whirlwind adventure across the continents. “In The Whale” - (NR; 1 hour, 21 minutes) - One screening only! From Filmmaker David Abel. In the shark-filled waters off Cape Cod, Michael Packard has long tempted fate. As the region’s last-remaining commercial lobster diver, the aging father has had his share of harrowing experiences, which include close encounters with great whites, nearly drowning, and having to pull up the body of a fellow diver. He even survived a plane crash in the jungles of Costa Rica, where he ran a charter fishing business. But what happened to him on a routine dive during a clear June morning was something he never imagined possible, and many around the world refused to believe. “In the Heat of the Night” - (1967; 1 hour, 49 minutes) - The first film in a new film series “Screen Shots” presented by host Christine Merser, focused on “America’s Racial Struggles on the Screen.” African-American Philadelphia police detective Virgil Tibbs (Sidney Poitier) is arrested on suspicion of murder by Bill Gillespie (Rod Steiger), the racist police chief of tiny Sparta, Mississippi. After Tibbs proves not only his own innocence but that of another law man, he joins forces with Gillespie to track down the real killer.
