“Casablanca” - (1942; 1 hour, 42 minutes) - The final film in Season 6 of the Classic Film Club celebrating the Legends & Lovers of Hollywood. Critics and fans agree: This is one of the greatest movies ever made. Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman are unforgettable as star-crossed lovers in the classic that won Oscars for Best Picture, Director and Screenplay – and remains one of the most-quoted films of all time. From “Here’s looking at you, kid” to “We’ll always have Paris,” to “Louis, I think this is beginning of a beautiful friendship,” this is a magic and timeless, iconic romance. We are pleased to be joined at each screening by film historian and CFC host, Jeannie MacDonald, for a pre-film introduction and post-screening talkback. “The Taste of Things” - (PG-13; 2 hours, 21 minutes - In French with English subtitles) - Cook Eugenie (Juliette Binoche) and her boss Dodin (Benoît Magimel) grow fond of one another over 20 years, and their romance gives rise to dishes that impress even the world’s most illustrious chefs. When Dodin is faced with Eugenie’s reluctance to commit, he begins to cook for her. “La Forza del Destino” - (4 hours, 22 minutes - 2 intermissions) - A New Met Live in HD: Production! Music Director Yannick Nézet-Séguin conducts Verdi’s grand tale of ill-fated love, deadly vendettas, and family strife, with stellar soprano Lise Davidsen as the noble Leonora, one of the repertory’s most tormented—and thrilling—heroines. Director Mariusz Treliński delivers the company’s first new Forza in nearly 30 years, setting the scene in a contemporary world and making extensive use of the Met’s turntable to represent the unstoppable advance of destiny that drives the opera’s chain of calamitous events. The distinguished cast also features tenor Brian Jagde as Leonora’s forbidden beloved, Don Alvaro; baritone Igor Golovatenko as her vengeful brother, Don Carlo; bass-baritone Patrick Carfizzi as Fra Melitone; and bass Soloman Howard as both Leonora’s father and Padre Guardiano.
