Wiscasset Senior Center
Happy New Year to one and all! The new year brings with it some new programs, new opportunities and new friends.
A new program will begin with the Wednesday, Jan. 17 supper. At each of the semimonthly suppers until the end of April, we will have a drawing for two complimentary tickets to the Lincoln Theater. Currently, after paying for a meal at the door, each person is given a ticket which is collected as we get served. Beginning with the Jan. 17 supper everyone will be asked to write their name on the reverse of their ticket for a drawing after the meal. The winner will receive the tickets to be used like a gift certificate at the Lincoln Theater, surely a great way to beat the winter doldrums!
A new opportunity is in the works for a raffle of $200 worth of heating oil. More information will follow as this program rolls out.
New friends can be made at the next community supper on Wednesday, Jan. 17 at 5 p.m. This meal will feature haddock with rice, vegetable, soup, salad, bread and dessert. Reservations for the meal must be made by noon on Monday, Jan. 15 by calling the Wiscasset Community Center on 882-8230. All are welcome!
Remember that if you have made a reservation for a meal but are unable to attend, please call 882-8230 to cancel your reservation.
In case you missed it, we had a wonderful baked ziti supper on Wednesday, Jan. 3 prepared by Chef Julie. Unfortunately nobody present had a January birthday, so we didn't get to sing.
Upcoming community suppers will include meatloaf with scalloped potatoes on Wednesday, Feb. 7 and chicken oregano on Wednesday, Feb. 21.
As we slide full force into the winter season, keep in mind that if we have inclement weather on a Wednesday when there is a scheduled supper, the meal will be canceled if the Wiscasset schools are closed, send students home early or if the Wiscasset Community Center is closed. If however, the Wiscasset schools have a delayed opening, the meal will be served.
The cribbage scores for Tuesday, Jan. 2 were Diane Robinson first (821), Nancy Wright second (812), a tie for third with Doc Schilke and Blanche Johnson (811), low score Nancy Schilke (703) and high hand Nancy Wright (24).
