Wouldn’t it be nice
Last week, Wiscasset’s town meeting-style school budget meeting drew way more residents than usual to that yearly meeting in Wiscasset Middle High School’s Stover Auditorium. Wouldn’t it be nice if a similar turnout was had down the hall, for next Tuesday’s sharing of students’ work relating to the recent solar eclipse?
Those odds might be long, without a school budget, taxes and programs on the line in the eclipse-sharing event, set for 5:30 p.m. in the library. But why not attend and make the students’ night with a big turnout?
The announcement we got Monday said there will be refreshments. So, there’s that. But most of all, just by showing up, it is a chance to show interest in, and support for, the students as their school year is in its homestretch.
Maybe the April 30 voter turnout and all the increased interest and comment in school committee meetings this year are a trend for the town, a trend that can continue with wider participation in school department business and, why not, in municipal business, too.
Week’s positive parting thought: Caring – it’s contagious!
