Pruning basics class
In keeping with Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens’ theme for 2013, Trees, Timbers and Traditions, horticulturist Will Bridges will offer a class on pruning basics for all levels of expertise. This hands-on workshop from 9 a.m.-noon on Saturday, March 2, will be in the Bosarge Family Education Center and, weather permitting, outdoors at the Gardens.
This program will be a great way to learn which trees and shrubs to prune and when, as well as the best techniques for creating healthy structures and aesthetically pleasing forms. Since many woody plants are best pruned during winter dormancy, this is the perfect time of year to learn or hone useful and valuable skills.
Participants should dress for cold weather and should also bring their pruning shears.
Will Bridges, now in his fifth year on the Gardens’ horticulture staff, holds a bachelor’s degree in landscape horticulture from the University of Maine and has been gardening in Maine most of his life. His presentations, both at the Gardens and to groups at flower shows and elsewhere, always receive rave reviews.
Prices for this class are $35 for Gardens members and $40 for nonmembers, and reservations are required. To sign up, call 207-633-4333, ext. 101, or visit www.mainegardens.org/. Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens is located off Barters Island Road in Boothbay.
