Unexpected visitors
When we buy wild bird seed, we generally expect to be feeding chickadees, sparrows, a blue jay or two, a red squirrel looking for a free meal and the occasional unknown weird critter with a malfunctioning GPS, clearly on its way to someplace else.
Generally speaking, we are not surprised by what we see out the back door, nor do we anticipate such gatherings as occurred recently – something akin to a Menhaden Karaoke gathering at The Bluefish Bar and Grill.
The chickadees sat on the roof of the sheep shed in shock. They, like us, were struck by the large number of visitors. Do turkeys call one another when a food source has been located or do they just show up en masse? The chickadees and we want to know.
And, I'd like to add, these visitors do not clean up after themselves. It's a mine field out there. Especially troubling is the fact that what they leave behind is the result of something ingested elsewhere. Puh-leeeze. “Carry in, carry out.”
Better watch out Jean Thompson, they were heading your direction!
