Jefferson crash kills one
A crash in Jefferson Sunday night claimed the life of a Jefferson woman.
At approximately 7:59 p.m. Sunday, Lincoln County Communications Center received a report of a single-vehicle accident on Route 126 near the intersection with Hinks Road. The investigation is still underway but the preliminary investigation shows Laura Foley, 21, was eastbound on Route 126 when the 2001 Subaru Forester she was driving left the roadway while negotiating a bend in the road. The vehicle then struck several trees.
Foley was killed in the accident. Speed and driver inexperience are believed to be factors. Foley was wearing a seatbelt.
The Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by Jefferson Fire Department, Waldoboro EMS and a Sagadahoc County Sheriff’s Office accident reconstruction specialist.
Route 126 was closed to traffic while the accident was investigated.
