Food for thought
When Wiscasset Farmer’s Market talked with selectmen Oct. 19 about possible new sites, Parks and Recreation Director Duane Goud offered one that could make sense. The back of Wiscasset Community Center’s parking lot. Goud said parking would not be a problem when the market wants to run, Friday mornings. And, unlike some of the other sites discussed, it has the room for vendors’ tents.
Goud’s idea could be a natural fit, and a smart one. Although you wouldn’t see the market from Route 1, the visibility is there for a target audience for farmers’ markets: People who want to eat healthy (read locally grown) foods, and who don’t mind investing the money and the time to do it. Who do you find at WCC? Health and wellness seekers.
Not that your average Route 1 motorist is not, but if the town is willing to consider letting the market be there, it is worth a shot since other sites the farmer’s market has tried near Route 1 have, according to the market, not worked.
Week’s positive parting thought: We all have an advantage this Halloween in the attempt to figure out who is that, in a costume. A year and a half into mask-wearing in stores, at events and elsewhere, we have grown the skill of identifying someone by their voice!
