We did it
It’s a small, mostly local victory in the scheme of very important things, a pandemic, climate change and American politics where dramatic things have happened in recent months and years. But it is one I have watched and worked toward since Wiscasset Newspaper got a Facebook page. Our page’s likes have hit another milestone, among its milestones of every 500 more likes or 1,000 more.
So what’s so special about the 4,000 page likes we are up to?
Make that 4,003 at press time. Well, our Facebook likes at last exceed the population of Wiscasset. Town Clerk Linda Perry confirmed Tuesday, the 2020 Census had the town at 3,742.
We could split hairs, since the paper and Facebook page cover surrounding towns, too. So if you add their populations and the fact we have many page likers who live outside Wiscasset and some outside Maine, my going by Wiscasset’s population as a goal was at least somewhat artificial. But for years I have looked forward to meeting and surpassing the people count of the county seat, the paper’s, website’s and Facebook page’s namesake, Wiscasset.
If you live in Wiscasset and like Wiscasset Newspaper’s Facebook page, thank you. If you live in Wiscasset and do not yet like the page, please consider it as a local source of breaking news, not so breaking but still newsy news, events coverage and more, like columns and school sports results.
If you don’t live in or around Wiscasset, but like our Facebook page because you used to be from here, know people here, or just realize what an interesting, relevant place the town and region are, thank you also. As a radio deejay once told me when I picked the category “literature and art” for a question to try to win a prize, you must be very intelligent.
Did I get the answer right?
That’s not important. It was a long time ago.
Onto 4,500 likes, and beyond.
Week’s positive parting thought: 60F in November? My years long campaign against winter is finally working!
