Peter R. Cook. A lifelong friend, high school teammate and best man. Having to say good-bye this week has been tough on everyone who knew him.

One thing that truly sunk in with me during his celebration of life service on Sunday is that he gave more than he got. His family, friends and everyone else who knew him benefited from his understanding, knowledge, humor and zest for life, and he didn’t expect anything in return. Although he lived away and traveled for most of his adult life, he maintained roots here in the region and, in his short retirement, was volunteering to help the community in various ways. He was a great athlete, a loving father and recently bubbled over becoming a grandfather.

Rest in peace, Pete. You went too soon but your impact on everyone you touched will remain.
