A happening town
Neat plan, Wiscasset Area Chamber of Commerce, getting trendy with what WACC hopes will be an annual “Battle of the Boards.” No, not corn hole, although corn might be in the mix for some entries. We shall see! This contest, set for Aug. 19 at Maine Tasting Center, 508 Old Bath Road, will be carried out on charcuterie boards. Wiscasset is a foodie town, along with being a dog lover’s and history lover’s town, and more, so to have the very active Chamber trying this additional foray into fun, like it and the community have had with other themes, is good news.
Even better news and still exciting to some of us a couple weeks after we reported online is the passenger rail service being tried again on the Rockland branch. And Monday, Midcoast Railservice announced three Bath-Wiscasset round trips are set for Aug. 26. It is happening, really happening, and here is hoping, really hoping, the service succeeds, for anyone who would enjoy it or benefit from it, including any businesses riders visit on their Wiscasset stop.
Maybe it will not rain, and riders can best enjoy taking the scenic route. A nice thought, on yet another rainy Midcoast day. The rain was set to finish by the time you read this. Hopefully it did.
What will not be finished right off is Wiscasset’s next comprehensive plan. As we report this week, the latest effort is on. Here is hoping the third(?) time will be the charm for an effort that started about four years ago and ran into the pandemic and other issues. The term “comprehensive plan” is hard to make fun. I tried in this column years ago. But its many syllables make it no less important. Watch on our pages and at wiscassetnewspaper.com as the plan develops, and for any committee announcements on how fellow townspeople can say what they want for Wiscasset’s next decade.
