County real estate sales increase
Sales of Lincoln County homes were up almost 15 percent in the second quarter of this year when compared with last year’s figures, according to figures released by the Maine Real Estate Information System.
“We have been very busy all year," said veteran Boothbay Harbor Realtor Bruce Tindal.
The second quarter sales figures show county home sales outpacing the state wide home sales figures, which showed a year-to-year gain of 6.42 percent.
In terms of dollars, the average selling price of a Lincoln county home jumped 28.4 percent when compared to the second quarter of 2012.
The average sales price jumped from $185,0000 in 2012 to $237,500 in 2013, according to the real estate sales reporting system, a subsidiary of the Maine Association of Realtors.
“We had a really strong first quarter and the second quarter was strong, too,” said Tindal, a principal at Tindal & Callahan Real Estate.
“We had a tough four years following the recession. Last year was better and this year it looks like it is better this year,” he said.
The National Association of Realtors reported a national single-family existing home sales increase of 14.5 percent last month, compared to last June’s sales figures, the Realtors release said.
Bart Stevens, president of the Maine Association of Realtors, said buyers are starting to get motivated as the economy continues to improve.
