Barrie A. Walter
Barrie Ann Walter, 62, affectionately known as Missie, passed away peacefully after a short illness on Oct. 20, 2023, surrounded by her loved ones.
Born in Akron, Ohio to Anne and Greg Walter, Missie grew up in Pennsylvania and spent her childhood summers in Maine visiting her grandparents on Southport Island. It was such a magical place that she decided as a teenager to
make Maine her home, first moving to Portland and then settling in Scarborough, raising her family along the Spurwink River. She was a kind and caring mother, a doting and playful grandmother, a sweet sister, a lover of animals and nature, a music aficionado, a jigsaw puzzle master, creative and crafty, a collector of art and pottery and many other things but most of all a free spirited, unique, sweet and smiling soul who will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Predeceased by her adoring husband, Thomas P. Sesto, she is survived by her children; Jill Ewing Smith (Jordan), Chelsea Raven (Zach) and Alec Sesto (Audrey), her grandchildren who lovingly called her “G,” Alice Smith, Evan and Eli Raven and Etta and Thomas “Gus” Sesto. Also survived by her brother, Philip Walter, sisters Katie Hearn and Maggie Aiello and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Memorial services will be held privately.
