Welcome back, Schoonerfest!
Kudos to Wiscasset’s Schoonerfest for, after a year off, coming back with a planned event that sounds like it will still be a nice time. Some of the plans are similar to the first couple installments and, as a single-day event this time, it is right-sized for the kind of draw Schoonerfest has gotten, not Pumpkinfest or Windjammer Days big, but gatherings of people who enjoy the shanties, etc. Schoonerfest was five days in 2021 and four in 2022.
This aligns Schoonerfest more to the traditions of Wiscasset’s Fourth of July and Scarecrowfest, and First Congregational Church’s Summerfest and St. Philip’s Church’s Strawberry Festival. Each is very good at fulfilling attendees’ hopes for the event, and keeps them looking forward to it each year.
Welcome back, Schoonerfest, and resume your spot in Wiscasset’s lineup!
Week’s positive parting thought: Hope your extra day this leap year is a good one on Thursday, Feb. 29, and that everyone’s power stays on through the predicted wind gusts.
