Green Building presentation
A home in Maine’s Midcoast region must respond appropriately to local challenges (humidity, salty seabreezes, wind, unique soil conditions/rock/ledge/radon, etc.). Join Boothbay Region Land Trust as we host Knickerbocker Group on Wednesday, August 22 at the YMCA's Camp Knickerbocker Lodge at 5:30 p.m. Local designers and builders from Knickerbocker Group will address the challenges and opportunities facing the midcoast Maine home and share time-tested solutions.
Through a photo slideshow, the presenters will share design and construction techniques for new homes, and will discuss some of the different systems that these super-insulated tightly-sealed homes require. They will also touch on strategies for approaching a renovation project, revealing some of the surprising (and scary!) things they often find when opening up the roof or walls of an older home or cottage.
In addition to sharing ‘whole house’ examples, the presentation will include a focus on the kitchen, considered the heart of the home by many. Learn how to make your kitchen renovation a green one! Elaine Murdoch, Certified Master Kitchen and Bath Designer for Knickerbocker group, will cover material choices, water and energy efficiency in the kitchen and accommodating green kitchen practices such as composting and recycling.
