Let there be lights!
Feeling festive?
How about decking the outside of your house with lights and other decorations for a contest, and a cause?
Feed Our Scholars in Wiscasset is planning its first ever Christmas Lights Decoration Contest. The citizens group that formed earlier this year partners with Good Shepherd Food Bank to provide weekend backpacks of nutritious meals.
The contest's $25 entry fee is enough to feed one child for a month through the program.
Feed Our Scholars is serving 40 children, 20 each at Wiscasset's primary and middle schools this semester, said the group's chairman, Gretchen Burleigh-Johnson of Edgecomb. In the second half of this school year, the group is upping those counts to 22 students at each of the two schools.
Fundraising is now turning to the following school year, when the group hopes to serve even more students, Burleigh-Johnson said.
Peapod Jewelry in Edgecomb and Wiscasset businesses Big Al's and Le Garage are sponsoring the upcoming contest, Burleigh-Johnson said.
This one is just for residences, not businesses, which have had their own contests, Burleigh-Johnson said. “We don't want to interfere with that,” she said.
Prizes are still being lined up for the contest. Judging will run from December 1 to December 5.
Some lights should be included in the displays, Burleigh-Johnson said.
Download a registration form at www.feedourscholars.wordpress.com or pick one up at St. Philip's Church in Wiscasset. The form and entry fee are due back at the church by November 27.
