Church recognizes garden club November 17
On Thursday, Nov. 7, members of The Garden Club of Wiscasset met at the Congregational Church for their monthly meeting.
The program for this month was “The History of Apples in Maine” given by John Bunker. Bunker is the author of “Not Far From the Tree, A History of the Orchards of Palermo.”
He is the founder of The Maine Heritage Orchard at the Maine Organic Farmers grounds in Unity Maine, the coordinator of Nursery sales for FEDCO, a farmer and informative, entertaining speaker.
His enthusiasm for the botany and history of apples is contagious. I am sure that we all will look at our local trees with increased interest and appreciation for each one’s place in our state history.
Garden Club members are invited to the worship service at the Congregational Church of Wiscasset on Sunday, Nov. 17 at 10 a.m. The church will recognize the club for its support.
The December 6 meeting will be at 10:30 a.m. This is everyone's favorite working session when members make holiday baskets of greens for many local residents and groups.
Please be reminded that if schools are canceled there will not be a meeting.
