Homeownership education course offered
Coastal Enterprises, a nonprofit community development organization, with the support of Maine State Housing Authority, will offer the first-time homebuyer seminar, a two-day homeownership education course, on Saturdays, April 26 and May 3, from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Coastal Enterprises, 36 Water St., Wiscasset.
The purpose of the homeownership education course is to help people prepare for and be well informed about the process of buying a home. Purchasing a home is the largest financial transaction most people ever make, and it is one of the best ways to build equity for the future. A well-informed consumer is in the best position to plan successfully and to make good decisions. Seminar topics include evaluating your credit and what price home you can afford; budgeting and money management; selecting and working with real estate agent, home inspections, types of available mortgages, including Maine Housing, VA, Rural Development; and the closing process and post-closing considerations. Participants must complete all four sessions and will receive a certificate of completion.
CEI is a HUD approved, certified and funded housing counseling agency. The homeownership education course is an approved Homeworks course. Homeworks is a statewide organization of nonprofit and private sector organizations supporting a statewide network of homeownership education providers offering consistent, high-quality homeownership education throughout Maine.
Pre-registration is required; and there is a $30/person or $50/couple (or co-buyer) non-refundable charge for the two-day seminar. Registrations will not be accepted after April 18.
