Garden club welcomes new members
The Garden Club of Wiscasset's 13 new members were honored October 29 at the home of Carol Blake on Westport Island.
On November 1, the club held its monthly meeting at The First Congregational Church of Wiscasset. Speakers included club member Debbie Williams, whose topic was changes in climate zones and what to consider when choosing perennial plants for our gardens, and horticulturist Amy Witt of the Maine Cooperative Extension Service.
Witt's topic was Gardening for the Birds. She provided a wealth of information about choosing plants and trees to attract birds, placing bird feeders and birdbaths, and providing habitat for nesting and perching. Following the speakers, members and guests were served a variety of delicious homemade pies, fresh fruit, tea and coffee.
Next month’s meeting will be held at 10:30 a.m., December 6 at the Congregational Church. The club will be making Christmas arrangements to be delivered to shut-ins, nursing homes, municipal buildings and the library. Members should bring clippers and any greens or berries from their gardens for use in the arrangements.
