Invasive plant management workshop on July 20
Knox-Lincoln and Waldo Soil & Water Conservation Districts and Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation & Forestry are sponsoring an indoor/outdoor workshop on how to manage invasive plants on Monday, July 20 from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in Belfast.
Invasive plants can over-run natural areas, crowding out native species and changing wildlife habitats. Join Nancy Olmstead, Invasive Plant Biologist with the Maine Natural Areas Program, at the Abbott Room of the Belfast Free Library at 106 High St. to learn about invasive plant management strategies including how to map, ID, prioritize, and control selected species.
Following the indoor presentation, participants will carpool to the Coastal Mountains Land Trust Stover Preserve in Belfast where Helen Burlingame, invasive plant volunteer, will lead a tour of an ongoing shrubby honeysuckle management project.
This program is approved for two hours of pesticide recertification credits by the Board of Pesticide Control.
Space is limited and registration is required. Registration fee of $10 includes handouts, coffee, and snacks. For more information and to register, call 207-596-2040, email info@knox-lincoln.org, or visit www.knox-lincoln.org/inv-plt-mgt to register online.
