William Spring featured in Southport show
The Southport Memorial Library welcomes William Spring as Artist of the Month for January and February.
Spring, a resident of Boothbay Harbor, started his love of art in high school, where he got the desire to learn how to be an illustrator. He started his training at The Arts Students' League in New York City, and later studied at The School of Visual Arts. He studied under Frank Reilly, a famous illustrator, who taught him much about mixing colors for the right value and strength. He worked in advertising and found it to be very interesting. During this time, he continued to study more with Edgar Whitney and John Howard Sanden, a portrait artist.
Come and enjoy his exhibit of watercolors, oils and acrylics. The library is open Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Tuesday and Thursday, 7 to 9 p.m. During the summer months, the William Spring Gallery is open near the footbridge.
