MaineHealth nurse manager receives Exemplary Leadership Award
Angela Russ RN, BSN, nurse manager in Obstetrics and Gynecology at MaineHealth Lincoln Hospital, recently received the Organization of Maine Nurse Leaders (OMNL) Exemplary Leadership Award. This is an annual award that recognizes nurses whose leadership has significantly influenced nursing practice.
During her three-year tenure as nurse manager at MaineHealth Lincoln Hospital, Russ has prioritized education and training to help stabilize nurse staffing levels in the unit. She also successfully implemented the Association of Women’s Health Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses’ (AWHONN) Perinatal Orientation Education Program (POEP), which now provides training for all nurses in the department. In addition, she coordinates the provision of interdisciplinary simulation trainings, with a focus on the importance of team delivery of care for a laboring mother and baby.
“Angela is a role model in her pursuit of excellence and personal accountability,” said Christine Anderson, RN MSN, NE-BC, Regional Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) for the Coastal Region of MaineHealth. “Her efforts in recruitment and ensuring that those joining her team are equally committed, has been foundational to her success. Frequent communication, one-on-ones, staff meetings and her wildly popular weekly publication “Nuts and Bolts” provide her team with stellar communication. This, and her inherent wit and genuine caring for her team, have resulted in all-time high engagement scores on the maternity unit.”
