Midcoast Senior College, a local nonprofit dedicated to providing lifelong learning opportunities for area residents 50 years and older, celebrates its 25th anniversary in 2025. Since its inception in 2000, the organization has continued to grow and expand its offerings of exceptional learning events, courses, excursions, and lectures for seniors in this area.
For 25 years, Midcoast Senior College (MSC) has engaged seniors in meaningful, enjoyable, and thought-provoking experiences. No tests, grades, or credits -- senior college is for seniors who wish to continue to explore the world. With multi-week courses, two free speaker series in the summer and winter, educational excursions, and social events, there is always something happening at MSC. The Midcoast Inquirer, the college’s newsletter, brings news and articles to the community three times a year. A free writer’s group, The Senior Scribblers, meets weekly. And, in January, free museum tours are offered.
In honor of this milestone, MSC hosted a celebratory event on Jan. 3 at Saint John’s Community Center. Embracing the theme, “Lifelong Learning Illuminates Your Life,” the special event brought together 132 community members, supporters, and partners to celebrate MSC’s achievements and look forward to the future. Highlights of the event included a panel of guest speakers who were intrinsic to the development of MSC. The Midcoast Senior College Singers performed three choral arrangements, and guests enjoyed great food, conversation, and door prizes donated by local businesses.
As MSC celebrates this important anniversary, it also looks to the future to continue building a volunteer base, adding new faculty, and strengthening its financial reserves to continue MSC’s great mission into the future. Anniversary celebrations will continue throughout the year with free lectures, a members annual meeting and social in June at Bowdoin College, and more.
