Einstein said, “The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious. It is the source of all true art and science. He to whom the emotion is a stranger, who can no longer pause to wonder and stand wrapped in awe, is as good as dead; his eyes are closed.” If he were here today, I think he just might join us on one of our Mysterious Harbor Tours, offered as e-bike adventures and walking discoveries. Each tour promises a unique blend of local experiences, designed to unveil the eerie and enchanting sides of Boothbay Harbor.

The Paranormal Pedal electric bike tour is the perfect way to get up close and personal with the Boothbay region’s mysterious side and discover why it’s chock full of ghosts, mysterious creatures, and UFOs – oh my! You will enjoy stunning ocean views as we ride along historic Boothbay byways leading to some truly mysterious locations, including Lobster Cove - also known as Pirates Cove - Spruceworld, a forested log cabin village and America’s longest wooden footbridge. A haunting highlight includes visiting the iconic Spruce Point Inn, host to the Kennedys, Ernest Hemingway, and more than its fair share of ghosts!

We have two different Boos Ghost Walks because we couldn’t fit all of the hair-raising tales into just one tour! The Sea Spirits, Serpents & Microbrews tour includes stories about the harbor’s most notorious unsolved (possible) murder mystery, Boothbay Harbor’s very own sea serpent, and the eerie legends surrounding the harbor’s islands. We’ll wrap up our walk on the weird side at the Footbridge Brewery where you can enjoy beautiful harbor views along with your brews (and boos)! The Opera House Haunts, UFOs & Whiskey tour. This walk begins with the boo-tiful Boothbay Opera House – widely regarded as the most haunted building in Maine – and ends with otherworldly tales of UFOs in the skies over Boothbay Harbor. Conclude your hair-raising adventure with an adventurous cocktail or whiskey flight at Neat and toast to a brave exploration of the unexplained!

The Joy Ride electric bike tour is the perfect way to experience the breathtaking natural beauty of our peninsula with all five senses. Take in the stunning coastal scenery where the spruce forest meets the rocky coast of the Atlantic Ocean from carefully chosen picture-perfect viewpoints of islands and lighthouses. We’ll wend our way through forested resorts and a historic log cabin village with stops in Barrett Park, Spruce Point, and the 1901 Footbridge.

The Tour de l’Art electric bike tour combines the Boothbay Peninsula's natural beauty with the art it inspired. Our first stop will be on Mt. Pisgah overlooking Boothbay Harbor where we’ll visit Villard Studios, the last working studio of the region’s 19th century Commonwealth Art Colony of Boothbay Harbor. Kim and Phillipe Villard specialize in a rare whiteline woodcut method and have produced 100+ images for their natural history woodcut collection that brought the Boothbay Peninsula into the permanent collection at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), NY. After visiting Villard Studios, we’ll bike around the head of Lobster Cove and visit the MacDonald Stained Glass Studio followed by the Joy to the Wind Gallery with paintings by John and Lynne Seitzer.

The Art & Wine Walk combines local art with fine wine – a perfect pairing. We’ll stroll through town and spend time with artists in four galleries before heading to The Pearl wine bar, featuring sommelier extraordinaire, Mark Guerin, who offers a curated wine selection and unique menu. We’re visiting Gleason Fine Art, which has been consistently voted “Best Art Gallery in Maine,” featuring paintings and sculpture. We’ll visit Black River Gallery featuring local photography and paintings and Ed Brown’s Wharfside Gallery featuring original watercolors and local photography.

Experience Boothbay Harbor in a unique way. Who knows what you may encounter?
