To all taxpayers in Wiscasset:

We would encourage everyone to support Judy Flanagan’s common sense idea in suggesting we abolish the Historic Preservation Commission. We should no longer indulge these self-appointed commissars. They have been insulting and patronizing in their obstructions and foot-dragging. Homeowners should be allowed to do the best renovation jobs then can manage without having any total strangers conning them into asking permission on how to spend their time, energy and resources on their own home. They have been out of control and rude about it, when homeowners gave notice to them of their intended choice of materials, whether for a fence around their property or window replacement upgrades. If the original builders of two hundred years ago had insulated thermal-pane glass, they would have used it and appreciated it.
