A barnyard Christmas comes to Wiscasset
The Alan-Dee Dairy 4-H Club will sponsor an event dubbed Country Christmas in the Barn at Wiscasset’s Morris Farm December 8 and 9 from noon to 6 p.m.
The club’s members have assembled a beautifully decorated display barn featuring Christmas trees, colored lights and critters.
Navy, a very pregnant Holstein cow that is due to calve December 26, will be the star attraction, as well as a dairy heifer, a dairy goat and a bunny house from this past summer’s 4-H member projects. An old time parlor will also be on display.
In the Learning Center, where it is warm, there will be the site of a bake goods and craft sale that will feature Christmas wreaths. There will be a raffle for a special homemade barn wreath. For the kids, there will be a cookie decorating table and games.
In case you get hungry, they will serve homemade soup, chili and cornbread, along with desserts and hot beverages. Everything will be funded by donations. The highlight of the room will be the donation tree.
An important part of a 4-H club experience is to teach the members to become active community members by participating in a service project. This year, the club has adopted a family for Christmas. All the proceeds raised by the club for the 2-day event will be used to make that family's holiday a little brighter. The kids have a goal of raising $500.
Last summer, the club put on various fund raising events to help pay for supplies needed for community fairs. The response from businesses, organizations and individuals was overwhelming. The kids are learning the life skill of appreciation and are anxious to give back to their community.
So please come and see the results of their hard work and enjoy the holiday season with a great group of 4-H kids, parents and volunteers.
The Morris Farm is located at 156 Gardiner Road in Wiscasset.
