Blessing of animals Oct. 2 in Wiscasset
Wiscasset Town Common will be the location of our second annual Blessing of Animals on Sunday Oct. 2, at 2 p.m. All are welcome to bring their pets on leash or carrier, a photo of your pets or a stuffed animal to be blessed.
Closest to the feast day honoring the life and ministry of St. Francis of Assisi, which is Oct. 4, the Blessing of Animals is a special occasion commemorating St. Francis’ love for all creatures great and small.
“We live in a community where many have pets who are an important part of their family. What a precious gift God gives us!” said Rev. Tom Junkert, who serves at St. Philip’s Episcopal Church and is one of the organizers of the event, along with Deborah Morgan. Rev. Amy Lignitz-Harken, interim pastor at First Congregational Church in Wiscasset, will also be involved along with other community members.
There will also be representatives from Rescue Charlie’s Friends, who will share the work they are committed to. They are a non-profit 501c3 all breed dog rescue dedicated to rescuing homeless and abused dogs from high kill shelters to give them a good life in a great loving home! The organization recently moved into its new facilities in Woolwich.
There will be a photo booth at the event for a digital photo of you and your pet(s), to celebrate your wonderful relationship with your companion! Treats for your “fur babies” as well!
All are welcome!
