Departments, manager share positive news, messages
Last month, a man who could not drive to medical care in Boston and had no one to drive him got a free plane ride there, Wiscasset Municipal Airport Manager Rick Tetrev wrote in his Dec. 15, monthly report released Dec. 16. Tetrev explained, pilots volunteer with groups to offer free rides to care around the country.
He said the widower wept with joy at getting the ride. “(This) touched my heart and made me proud to be a part of our airport. A lot of good comes from (here), happy times, good times, memorable times.” Like other department heads’ reports to Town Manager Dennis Simmons, and Simmons’ report to selectmen, Tetrev’s included holiday well wishes.
Simmons told selectmen the new ambulance has arrived and the one it replaces will become a utility truck for the wastewater department. “Given the low trade-in value I feel that this will extend the town’s investment for several more years ...”
Referring to the rides Tetrev told about, Simmons noted some town services are easy to notice, like public safety workers going to emergencies, or Christmas lights; other departments work “with equal importance and less fanfare.
“All of our employees are part of the team ... working to make Wiscasset a great place to visit, raise a family, or run a business,” Simmons wrote. “I am proud of all our employees and volunteers and extend my heartfelt thanks to everyone. May whatever holiday you celebrate be joyous and may we all have a safe and prosperous new year.”
And Parks and Recreation Director Duane Goud said Ames True Value Supply donated “a good portion” of the holiday lights downtown. “Many thanks to the Averill family and all they do for the Town of Wiscasset!”
Two Wiscasset Community Center winter traditions are on: The annual father-daughter dance is Feb. 11; and Winterfest is Feb. 16-19, Goud announced.
