Don’t pass the buck
Dear Editor:
I attended the selectmen’s meeting on July 17. I was very pleased to hear that they were going to look into all the options for providing us with dependable ambulance service in the future.
I expect they will look into all the available options, the cost of each, availability, the fine print, what other towns are paying , short term costs, long term costs etc. etc. The impact on future capital expenditures and equipment maintenance I’m sure will also be included in their investigation.
The only problem I see is that once they absorb all that information, they intend to pass the final decision to the taxpayers.
Now, how can we possibly make a better decision than they could? They will have all the information so I feel very strongly that they should decide what is best for the residents.
If the residents have to make the decision on what option is best, I’m afraid that we could end up with an emotional decision rather than a factual one.
Come on selectmen, you will have all the facts, so make a decision. Don’t pass the buck!
This small town does not need to administer an ambulance budget that’s over a half million dollars not counting equipment replacement costs.
