Dresden taxpayers will have option to pay more bills online
Computer-agile Dresden residents may soon be taking fewer visits to the town office, with the expansion of Maine Revenue Services’ partnership for payment of tax and license fees online.
In a note to selectmen, Dresden Treasurer Kim Rzasa stated Monday, April 3 that the expanded service will let residents pay property taxes and dog licenses and access vital records online. Currently, auto and snowmobile re-registrations can be paid by credit card through the state-sponsored site.
“This will make property tax payments easier,” said Selectman Allan Moeller Jr. Selectman Dwight Keene questioned how the system will account for interest due on late property tax bills. Administrative Assistant Trudy Foss said the program will feed off the town’s computer billing program so that the updated amount will be available to the taxpayer.
The board agreed to move ahead with the additional services. Moeller confirmed there were no added fees on the transactions.
In other business, Moeller said he had met with a representative of cable company Spectrum; the company is ready to extend coverage to residents on Calls Hill and Orchard Hill roads if there is sufficient new customer interest. “Spectrum is willing to work with us,” said Moeller.
He said engineering plans were being finalized for a new culvert on Bog Road. The project will be partially funded by a $84,000 grant from the Department of Environmental Protection.
The board agreed to meet with Fire Chief Steven Lilly for a workshop on the fire department budget.
Former Selectman Dave Probert confirmed that the Richmond Grange would award him the annual Community Service Award on April 30. Probert has served on Dresden’s Conservation Commission, Comprehensive Plan Committee, Budget Review Committee and on the Stewardship Committee of the Pownalborough Court House.
