‘Easter in Art’: The greatest story ever told
Easter is right around the corner and is considered by many to be the greatest story ever painted. Exhibition on Screen brings a stunning documentary film presenting one of the most significant events in history – the death and resurrection of Jesus in their film “Easter in Art” playing at the Lincoln Theater for two screenings only, Thursday, April 14 at 7 p.m. and Friday, April 15 at 2 p.m. Displaying some of the greatest artworks ever produced, and shot on location in galleries around the world, the film highlights the incredible works of artists such as Caravaggio, Leonardo, Raphael, El Greco, and Dalí.
The story of Christ’s death and resurrection has dominated western culture for the past 2,000 years. It is perhaps the most significant historical event of all time, as recounted by the gospels, but equally as depicted by the greatest artists in history. From the triumphant to the savage, the ethereal to the tactile, some of western civilization’s greatest artworks focus on this pivotal moment. This beautifully crafted film explores the Easter story as depicted in art, from the time of the early Christians to the present day. Shot on location in Jerusalem, United States and throughout Europe, the film explores the different ways artists have depicted the Easter story through the ages and thus depicts the history of us all.
According to the film’s Director, Phil Grabsky, “Whatever one’s religious beliefs may be, one can hardly fail to be moved by the emotion of these extraordinary paintings, nor be amazed by the sheer quality of works. “Easter In Art” seeks to unveil what the canonical gospels - Matthew, Mark, Luke and John - actually say about the final days of Jesus’ life on earth and the extraordinary events that followed. The film features some truly exceptional pieces of art which together show the many different ways in which this timeless story has been told and retold throughout history.”
