With the heating season starting, and with fuel prices at an all time high, more of you will be using wood as an alternate source of heat.

It is critical that you have your chimney inspected and cleaned before lighting your first fire in your wood stove or fireplace to avoid the danger of a chimney fire. Once ignited, a chimney fire can quickly spread to the rest of the house. Also, burn only seasoned hardwood to avoid the buildup of creosote, the cause of most chimney fires.

Sept. 7, 8:17 p.m., Salt Marsh Cove Road, Fire alarm. Checked whole house, found no sign of fire. Contacted caretaker, advised him to contact alarm company.

Sept. 10, 1:58 p.m., Eddy Road, Fire alarm. Arrived on scene, no fire. Responsible party to contact alarm company.

Sept. 11, 8:12 p.m., Route 27, Fire alarm. False alarm, triggered by cleaning grill.

Sept. 13, 9:44 a.m., Fox Den Road, Medical. Turned care over to CLC Ambulance Service.

Sept. 17, 8:34 a.m., Eddy Road, Fire alarm. Arrived on scene, no fire. Responsible party to contact alarm company.

Sept. 18, 3:55 p.m., Route 1 at Route 27, Fire alarm. False alarm, accidentally triggered.

Sept. 19, 3:02 p.m., Route 27, Fire alarm. False alarm.

Sept 21, 3:37 p.m., Route 1 at Route 27, 2 vehicle MVA, no injuries. Both vehicles off roadway. Turned scene over to Deputy Sheriff.

Sept. 24, 2:30 p.m., McKay Road, 2 vehicle MVA. One vehicle rolled over. Driver refused transport to hospital. Shut down road until vehicle towed. Cleared debris from roadway.

Sept. 25, 2:51 p.m., Route 27 at Eddy Road, 2 vehicle MVA, no injuries. Provided traffic control, cleared debris from roadway.

Sept. 27, 10:35 a.m., Route 27 at Eddy Road, MVA, car vs. deer. No injuries, car was drive-able.

Sept. 29, 9:03 a.m., Route 1 at Dodge Road, Medical. Turned care over to CLC Ambulance Service.

Sept. 30, 3:57 a.m., Route 27, 1 vehicle MVA, no injuries, car in ditch. Wrecker pulled car out of ditch, car was drive-able.
